IceDogs Lose a Heartbreaker to Sailors
The U15 IceDogs were coming off an emotional overtime win on Friday night in Chesley with Simon J. delivered with the game winner.  Now, they had a re-match vs the Sailors, this time in Goderich.

The IceDogs were a little banged up for this one and had Ian M. called up as reinforcements.  The game started out the way the last one ended---with the IceDogs putting on the pressure in the Sailor endzone.  But it was the Sailors that got the first one, with a top corner shot and the 'Dogs were playing from behind.  Brayden P. would put a filthy move on a Sailor defender and his rebound shot would kick to Riley J. for a goal and the IceDogs had it knotted at ones after one.

The 2nd period was where the Sailors found their legs.  First, a PP goal got them ahead by one and then late in the period to go up by 2.  The IceDogs had lost their checking legs and were facing a 2 goal deficit heading into the 3rd.

But these IceDogs have learned a lot about what it takes to win this year.  They had a PP going into the third and vowed to turn the tables.

They did.

First, Chris P. would come out from behind the net and fire a low hard wrister by the Goderich goaltender.  Shortly after that, Owen M-8 would come out from behind the net and feed Sailor killer Simon J. for a goal and we were tied at 3's with 4 minutes left to play.  The IceDogs had some glorious chances to end it in the dying minutes of regulation but just couldn't pull the trigger.

Overtime was all IceDogs as they stormed the Sailor endzone, with passing and moving to open spaces that was maybe their best of the season.  But they just couldn't score.  And when you don't score on your chances, it only takes on chance against to sink you--and that's what happened as the Sailors came down and scored with 1 minute and a half left to play.

The IceDogs were left disappointed and feeling like one got away on them.  And they can feel bad about it for a little bit...but not for long....they will need 2 more wins in their 2 remaining playoff games to move on.  They have built a resume for this moment...resilency, no quit and compete.  I wouldn't bet against them!

Let's do this IceDogs!
