IceDogs Settle for a Point vs Cyclones
Your U15 Rep IceDogs were hosting the Listowel Cyclones on a chilly Friday evening at the Chesley Community Centre.

The IceDogs were a bit sluggish coming out of the gate, maybe predictably so coming off a couple of lopsided wins.  But excuses are for losers and we just didn't have our usually jam early on.

The second period was marginally better.  A quick strike by the IceDogs was just what they needed.  Riley J. stripped a Cyclone defender of the puck and his quick shot sent a rebound to a wide open and waiting Brayden P who put 'er home and the IceDogs were hunting.  A couple more quick chances rang the post and Owen M-8 danced in through every Cyclone on the ice but just couldn't bury it.  Owen W. wasn't too busy but some lackadaisical play by the IceDogs forced him to be sharp on a couple of turnover chances.  Sure enough, a missed play here and misplay there and the Cyclones found the back of the net late in the period to knot things up at 1 heading into the intermission.

It might have made sense for the Coaches to kick some garbage cans or peel some paint BUT they took a different approach.  Let's do what we do best - Pressure, pesky and quick plays....and let's do it starting right now.  And the IceDogs got the message and delivered.  They were all over the Cyclones in the third, wth chance after chance just missing, hitting the post or a larcenous save by the Cyclone tender.  A couple of power plays delivered more chances but still the IceDogs couldn't break through.  Extra time was more of the same but the Cyclones collapsed in front of their goalie, seemingly settling for the tie and relying on their red hot goaltender.  Both teams settled for a tie and a point.

It was a tale of two teams - the IceDogs were admittedly not good enough in the first two frames - and more like themselves in the third and Overtime.  But, you can't play 1/2 a game and expect to get 2 points and that's exactly what happened.  The IceDogs have a busy week a head and no time to dwell on this one.  They'll get back at 'er with a practice and a game on Monday as they travel to Seaforth for a game versus the Huskies.
