PeeWee LL IceDogs Wrap Up Season with a Big Effort!
The AEMHA PeeWee LL IceDogs might have been officially eliminated from Championship contention but that didn't stop them from bringing a championship effort to Sunday's season finale.

The Owen Sound Jr. Attack were playing for a shot at the title but first, they had to get by the IceDogs.  Right from the onset, the IceDogs showed no mercy and played the majority of the first period in the Owen Sound end.  Tremendous play by Larkin G. would lead to a flurry of scoring chances but none would get by the Owen Sound net minder.  The first period would end in a goal-less tie.

Riding the wave of momentum of the first, the IceDogs would finally get on the board.  Captain Colby would rip a blast from the blue line and with Ben M, Ryan P and Gavin H. racing for the rebound, it would be Gavin who would finally backhand the puck home to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead.  (he didn't get an assist on the play, but props to Assistant Coach Pat for the wicked good tape job on Gav's stick!)  Owen Sound would get that one back with a roof job but that would be all the goals the Attack would get on Dusty Puckstopper on this day.  With a tremendous display of sportsmanship, Dusty would turn the net over to Noah in the final period, as Noah was playing his final Pee Wee game of his young career.  The 2nd period would end with the score knotted at ones.

The third period had the IceDogs once again carrying the bulk of the play but an unfortunate bounce (how many times have I said that this season?) would ricochet behind Noah and give Owen Sound the lead.   Captain Colby took matters into his own hands and fire a laser from the slot that went post and in and we were tied up once again.  The IceDogs continued to work and pressure and once again, it was Ben-Gavin and Ryan getting the 'Dogs back on the board.  Gavin would win a race to a loose puck and get the puck to Ryan would worked the puck to the front of the net.  Ben would rip home his final Pee Wee goal and get the IceDogs the lead in the waining minutes of the game.  But Owen Sound was playing for a chance at a championship and would get the equalizer with 4 minutes left to play.  With Coach "Bubba" Chris putting the lines in the blender for the final minutes, the IceDogs would get their chances to win it late but this game was headed to overtime.

Overtime was a see saw affair with Noah making some game saving saves and the Owen Sound goalie coming up big on a few occasions too.  It was clear that a lucky break would probably be the difference and it was.  A bouncing puck found it's way in front of the IceDog net and land clean and flat on an Attackers stick.  With Noah making a tremendous effort, the Attacker would fire the puck the only place he could and the Attack would win this one 4-3.

I can't say enough good things about this team.  They were hard-luck a lot of the season but their attitude and effort was always there and they proved time and time again they belonged on the ice with any team in the PeeWee League.  They represented their families and the Arran-Elderslie Hockey Association with class and I was very proud to be a part of the team.

Thanks for a great season Colby, Austin, Dom, Nayal, Daemyn, Eric, Ryan, Larkin, Ben, Alex, Dylan, Gavin, Avery and Rachel.  And a special thanks to the coaching staff, parent helpers and fans for making it a special season.

Coach Pricer out!
