IceDogs Soar Over the Falcons - Game #2 vs Hanover
The AEMHA PeeWee LL IceDogs were primed and ready to kick off their weekend of playoff hockey as they visited Hanover in Game #2 of their WOAA Round Robin series.  Hanover had proved to be tough competition for the IceDogs and had bested the 'Dogs in Hanover a few weeks back.

The IceDogs were determined from the onset of this one.  Shift after shift, the 'Dogs proved they had come to play and made a concentrated effort to win puck battles and get pucks to the net.  The Hanover goalie stood tall but the IceDogs net minder Noah J. was his equal in every way.  It was the IceDogs that would break through first.  A late Falcon penalty had the line of Ryan P-Larkin G and Eric G. going to work on the power play.  A flurry of shots by all three IceDogs finally had Ryan banking the puck in off the Falcon goaltender with 4 seconds left in the period and the IceDogs were on the board.

The ice was barely set in the 2nd period when Rachel L. collected a loose puck along the boards and fed Avery D.  Avery would fire a shot that was blocked but Gavin H. gathered the rebound and after a couple of whacks, the puck crossed the goal line to give the IceDogs a 2-0 lead.  Hanover would get that one back with a power play goal of their own that barely made its way in.  The Falcons seemed to get a boost from that goal but the IceDogs didn't break.  Once again, Rachel L. collected the puck and fed a streaking Colby H.  Colby would rip a low hard blast that seemed to go right through the Falcon net minder to get the 'Dogs their 2 goal lead back.  As time ticked away in the 2nd period, Colby would get another one on a carbon copy rush and the IceDogs were in full control 4-1 at the 2nd recess.

The Falcon's started the third with a bit of flurry but the IceDogs were full marks for their checking and didn't give the Hanover squad any real looks.  The D corps of Austin G., Nayal M, Dominick E, Colby H. and Daemyn E. were so solid as they kept the Falcons to the outside and feeding their forwards with some great outlet passes.  The forwards were back-checking and applying pressure of their own and if it wasn't for the strong Hanover goalie, this one would have been a no doubter.  Some questionable calls had the 'Dogs killing off a few penalties in the third but the IceDog penalty kill held strong.  Hanover would get a late lucky goal to get back within 2 but the IceDogs held on for the 4-2 win.

The IceDogs were pleased with their effort and they should be.  They executed the game plan to almost perfection and their quick passing and fast checking style was all the Falcons could handle.  They won't have much time to relish this one as these two teams face off again Sunday in Pixley, Ontario---5:00 puck drop...better get your tickets early folks, this one is bound to be a standing room only crowd.
