West Grey Came To Play
The IceDogs and West Grey met for a game that shook up our line and saw the Dogs take the lead in shots for the first period.  Although the Dogs stayed clear of the box, the clock ran out before we could get the tie.  Final 2 for the Dogs and 3 for them.

The game started with a position change, with Jay coming up to the front line and Clay taking the d.  The Dogs were assertive and kept the puck down in the West Grey.  A bouncy puck with a shot from Jay was a close contender for first goal but the fans would have to wait until some wonderful teamwork between Brandon, and Jason to get the puck on the stick of Mitch VV (or Mitch One) at 12:06.  One for us.  The Dogs kept the Greys on their heels, with a fine theft on rush by Matt and Josh then keeping the puck from clearing their blueline during another Dog rush and almost scoring with a great shot at 8:18.  For the first half of this penalty, the Dogs were way ahead with shots on.  Brock had a great battle with a Grey player at 8:02.  Then the tide started to turn around the seven minute mark when Lawson had to endure a pile up and still made the save!  West Grey started warming up their sticks.  They tied it up.  And then they were warming up seat in the penalty box.  WG received two penalties that gave the Dogs a 5 on 3 for the last 47 seconds.  And maybe that is all that should be said about that....  But shots for the period:  9 Dogs and 16 Greys and it was tied.

That two man advantage continued into the next period and with five seconds left on the second penalty,West Grey went ahead on the scoreboard. 1 to 2.  This was a fast skating period.  Lawson and Brad worked as a team to make a great save.  Brandon and Clay, returning to the front line, choked up the mid-ice and frustrated the other team.  West Grey took another penalty and Jay immediately tested the reflexes of the glove hand on their goalie.  Unfortunately, he had pretty good reflexes.  Mitch F was tipping the puck off their sticks and he and Chayse were trying to slow the West Grey roll, but at 1:07, they renewed their attack and after three stops, there was nothing more Awesome could do, and it was 1 to 3.  However, West Grey would have a problem controlling their enthusiam and the Dogs would receive yet another powerplay to start the next period.  Shots were closer:  7 for the Dogs and 10 for them.

The third period saw some fantastic saves by Awesome, as the Grey took 18 shots at him and none passed the line.  However, the early man advantage to the Dogs did not turn out as hoped and West Grey plugged up the channels that the Dogs couldn't even get one on that darn goalie!  But Dogs don't quit and Brandon got the puck in the right spot for Mitch One to hammer it home and make it 2 at 2:22.  With 1:29, West Grey AGAIN went to the box of shame and the Dogs pulled out all the stops and it was thisclose to Mitch One getting a new hat!  But that clock ran out and it remained 2 to 3.  However, not one penalty on our side of the sheet and five for them.  It was an exciting game to watch and cheer for!
