Dogs In Drayton
Ending a fine series, the Dogs were finally reunited and all skaters were back for this game.  Our goalie worked miracles to keep the Dogs going, but alas!  Right down to the final second, Dogs kept hunting for the win, but it was Drayton's.  1 for Dogs and 2 for them.

Both teams looked great on the ice in Drayton.  The first period started with Drayton getting the first goal  at 13:53, but the Dogs answered that point with an excellent goal for Matt at 10:48.  1 to 1.  Chayse took a Fritzy pass to his shin that made the DogPound wince.  At 6:38, Brad went to the penalty box to think about what he should have done to REALLY earn the coincidental penalty from an handsy Drayton forward.  Dogs weren't letting Drayton off the hook.  McIntosh had a great skate right up to their goalie!  But the score didn't change. Brandon took a hard hit and would head back to the bench, but you can't keep a good Dog down and he was back in a shift or two.  Drayton would get a powerplay when Josh had to have a sit when defending Lawson at 1:40 and as the period wound down, Lawson made an awesome pad save, just as buzzer sounded!  1 to 1, but the shot count was heavily in the favour of the Drayton.

The second period had our penalty finish up and then Hanna demonstrated some excellent puck theft techniques.  Clayton and the infamous #25 had a chance to both sit in the boxes of shame; again, coincidentals.  Neither team found it to be particularly beneficial.  Rourke got a hold of the puck and made a nice one-man-power-run.  Faust was working the whole ice surface.  Taylor kept looking for an opening.  Unfortunately, Drayton was shooting at our goalie twice as much as the Dogs were shooting at theirs.  However, we have a Lawson and they didn't.  With 25.5 Lawson made a save that still has fans scratching their heads about how he could even SEE it.  The score remained tied.

The third started rougher than we really enjoy.  In the first two minutes Drayton had eight shots (all handled beautifully!) on our goalie and we hadn't yet been into their end.  VanVeen tried to get a solid run started but couldn't get the support.  Brad demonstrated the way to take the puck off a Drayton stick.  Mason was stealing pucks from the other team and stepping out their checks.  The game was back and forth, until a Drayton player got in the tracks between Clay and Jay.  Ay.  After that brief interruption in the game, both teams came back with their last rush, and Drayton would get the go-ahead at 3:31.  That meant that the final minute would have six Doggies on the ice and they did their darnest to get the tie, but it was not to be and the clock ran out as the score remained 2 to 1.  Darn.

It is always a pleasure to cheer for this team!  And I was proud of how many made the trek to Drayton to support the lads and brought on our own cowbells.  Thank you!  And this team!  Such a wonderful bunch of rubes!!  As for the count:  Dogs got 21 shots on their goalie and Awesome saw 49.
