West Grey's Hockey Day
After a long rest, the Dogs were back on ice with a game against West Grey.  It was a back and forth game that demonstrated how great it is to have OUR goalie.  Playing right to the last few seconds of overtime, the West Grey went ahead.  4 to 3.

The IceDogs played some excellent hockey this game, despite that this game will not be recorded in our win column.  The Dogs had no penalties in this contest, despite a bit of provocation.  West Grey were required to have a little timeout four times, however, none of our points will be during these chances.  The entire first period was goal free for both sides, but there were some opportunities that both goalies handled well.

Period two saw the first goal of this game to the IceDogs with a great play to set up by Mitch F and Chayse, for Mason to plant it, at 13:08.  That woke up West Grey a bit and there was an interesting piece of action in our end when Lawson's stick was batted from his hands and Brad made an attempt to return it, got caught with two sticks and the refs had to take a second to review their Google for Refs apps.  No damage done though.  At 8:48, West Grey got on the board too with a rebound and would go ahead a few minutes later, despite some excellent goal tending by Lawson and some great defence support. Meuser had a fine run! VanVeen put the pressure on their goalie. Great hockey!  This period would end with seeing how flexible Chayse can be, when trying to keep onside.  Yoga!

Up until the third, it was interesting to notice the spread in shots on the goalies for both teams.  Up until this point, Lawson had faced 29 shots while the poor West Grey goalie only saw 6!!  Lawson made a great mask save at 10:53.  Then Dogs tied it up at 10:36 with Jason T putting the puck past their goalie's big toe, with assists to Hanna and Fritz.  2 to 2.  Then Hanna put us ahead at 4:56 with assists to Faust and Chayse.  That was our ninth shot on their goalie.  In the final four minutes, they tied us again, and despite some heavy puck abuse on our goalie for the final couple of minutes, there would be no more goals this period.

Usually the third is the final period, but not today.  Both teams played hard.  Rourke took down two forwards and in return, Brandon was rocked.  Brad went down and was hobbling.  Chayse stopped a slapper and he was hobbling.  Dogs and West Grey pulled out the stops.  However, at 14.2, the game was theirs.

But was the games really theirs?  They had four times more penalties than the IceDogs.  By the end of ovetime, our goalie faced down an AMAZING 54 SHOTS!!  And only let four in.  The West Grey goalie saw a wild total of 11 shots from us and three of them were goals.

Aren't we lucky that Lawson is truly Awesome?!?
