Icedogs head south to close out round robin play
Hockey~ a simple concept, skates, helmet, stick, some body protection, and slapping around a small black rubber puck- the aim, getting the 3" round puck in a net that is 4ft by 6ft. How hard could that be? Well for these U11 reps it seemed to be quite the task for the first and second period.
On Sunday March 6 your U11's packed their bags and headed south to have their last match up with the Central Perth Predators.
Coming off a huge win the day before your U11s played Sunday and as coach Brent calls it the "hang over" game it proved itself.
First period started off slow and scrambled, the predators were everywhere, including in our way. Whenever you turned around there they were (doing what predators do). Icedogs couldn't find the net at all during the first but not for lack of trying, as the old saying goes "Gotta hit the net". On a small turnover at the busy Central Perth blueline the Predators broke free on a break away putting Icedogs down 1-0. After the first the 3 coaches put their heads together and had a long "Keep it simple" chat with the kiddos, talking about back to basics to get back into this game.
The small chat coaches had after the first paid off and just 2:16 into the Second period Landry W scores his 17th of the season assisted by Bronson B to knot the game at 1. Once again the remainder of the second played out much like the first, but those strong 4 on the point consisting of Landon S, Bronson B, Avery W, Sam F, and our 5th D better known as Tender Jack T were instrumental in holding the Predators off the board throughout the remainder of the second.
Que the third period, now its getting Playoff game serious, Coach Brent has his clipboard out you know that he means business now, so message sent and messaged received as Calhon U nets the go ahead game winning "garbage" goal assisted by Hunter T. That lit the fire under these U11s and started the rally of goals, Icedogs put 6 more goals in net over a span of 12 minutes with Avery W starting the process assisted by Hunter T at 13:19 of the third, then to follow Paysen H adds to 2 more with helpers going to Bennett B and Jackson M. Hunter T up next adding 2 more assisted by Calhon U and Connor H. To finish todays scoring Jackson M pots his 19th of the season assisted by Landon S. Throughout this game we had two more notables with our main girl getting picked on by the refs and spent a total of 4 mins (two separate penalties) in the sin bin but as Avery says "This way we can work on our short handed play" What a girl taking penalties to help improve short handed play. Then all of a sudden Jack T comes skating to the bench when called upon by coach Brent, Clarky and Jeremy were starting to wonder what was going on when we have a commanding lead but it is now "Sweet Willy" H's turn to gather some minutes for the rest of the third and that he did, making some EPIC saves as the Predators tried to get some goals back. Final Score was 8-1.
