Moms Battle the Icedogs
Monday night on what would have been our team party, (Thank you Doug Ford for killing that dream) your U11 Reps took on the MOMs after they had their own All Star skills Competition.
Three events were held, Fastest Skater, a shoot out, and a target shoot. All players competed well, but there could only be one winner. Fastest Skater goes to our number 1 girl, Avery W coming in with 15.89 seconds. Shoot out went to Bennett B, and the last event target shoot goes to Landry W with all 4 corners in 25 seconds. Sadly we missed one of our Icedogs tonight Paysen H, he wasn't forgotten in these 3 events, rest assured he will be joining us again on Thursday night for our game in Keady.
Now the fun part...
5 moms dressed for the game, enough for one line. For some moms, they had never played hockey before in their life but from our performance on the ice you would never know.. First shift saw all the moms out, in a small victory the kids didn't score. Let me tell you, those little U11 are quick and sneaky.. or maybe we were just slow.
First to score was Mike B with a sweet saucer like pass from Jenn M, tape to tape. You'd think we knew what we were doing. One mom even sat on her kid cause she couldn't catch him.
During a face off Margie W battled her daughter Avery, and the gloves came off, this game was no calls on moms so it was fair game. retaliation at it's finest. Parents scored again, Jeff B nearly beheading our goalie Jack T, with Chris H assisting and second assist goes to Lindsay H because "I think she touch the puck".
The U11s started to get dirty, maybe frustrated because the parents were winning, Avery W fires a shot into the parents end but Lindsay H was quick to block the shot with her left butt cheek. Thanks for taking one for the team. Now the kids started to fight back. Calhon U flattens his mom in the corner throwing the punches, and just skated away leaving her laying face down on the ice. Real nice! Connor H squeaks one past Will H in net getting the U11s on the board. not sure about assists because I was too focused on the parents line lol. Hunter T was next scoring, giving us 2 a piece. During another face off at center ice Landry thought he'd try his hand with Mom Margie, but Levi the Ref was quick to blow the whistle and call it a draw, so twins go home and do dishes again. Normally a goal tender Nadine F strapped on the forward blades and skated around those little U11 like it was her job. glad she was on our side, man she could fly. She made several rushes down the ice setting up multiple plays.
To finish the game coach Brent called Last goal wins.... drum roll please.... PARENTS WON!! Coach Jay fires one past Jack with an assist from Jake S. Working behind the scenes was Margret T, Kelly H, Jenn B, Tab T, and Daryl H. The moms were taking pictures, and videos to document the evening, and stuffing socks for the kids, while Daryl was out on the ice helping the parents with their doors.
After being on the ice with the kids I have a new appreciation for all they do on the ice, they work hard, they dig deep, they keep us on our toes. We are all so very proud of you, Thank you for such a fun game and allowing us "old birds" to play out their with you.
