Silver Stick CHAMPS!!
Our U11 Reps take on Silver Stick
The last time this crew was gearing up to head to the Silver Stick tournament the world literally shut down. Everything was cancelled, schools were closed, we couldn't leave our homes for months, or even see our extended family. Now as they say hind sight is 20/20, as our world slowly started to open and hockey would return, just not to the capacity we were used to.

Parents couldn't watch their children play in the arena, kids couldn't play outside their cohort, there were no tournaments or team parties. Now fast forward to November 2021, here we are are having picked up a few new teammates and being a couple years older has made all the difference for this crew. So Wednesday November 24 we packed up our hockey bags and made the trip to Wingham for our first game in the Silver Stick Tourney. We met Goderich and lets just say it wasn't the outcome we had hoped for, we found ourselves down 5-1 at one point in the game but we slowly started the climb back up but it just wasn't enough to get the big W. The final score was 5-4. Icedogs met West Grey for game 2, this one had us a little nervous seeing how West Grey was undefeated, but our Icedogs dug deep and managed to pull out the win. Defence was strong and shut them down almost every chance the Warriors had with the final score being 4-2. Game 3 on Saturday November 27 had us meeting Wingham and former teammate Brock BP. Again Icedogs working as a team and all hands on deck, had us coming out on top with a 5-1 lead. With that win, we were heading back to the arena for a Semi Final game against Flesherton. Our crew stayed back and watched their game the night before, they did some strategizing with the coaches and at 12:30pm Sunday afternoon Icedogs hit the ice. With a bit of a slower start, we finally found our footing and the goals started to climb. The final score was 4-2 and now we were off to the championship game. Icedogs knew it was an all or nothing situation, and they gave it all they had. They left nothing on the bench and put it all on the ice! The moms were on the edge of their seats, screaming and yelling at the tops of their lungs. Loudest mom award going to Margie W:). As the clock was counting down and our lead was 2, coaches called a timeout with 1:21 left to go and the Huron Bruce's net was empty. Whatever the coaches said worked cause we skated away with a first ever Silver Stick win. Final Score was 4-2! Now your Icedogs are off to Forest in January for the International Silver Stick!!!
There are many pieces to the game puzzle of hockey and how lucky are we that we have every piece we need to finish the puzzle, this Icedog family of U11 kids is a very unique crew. Each and every player contributed in many ways to lift this team to their well deserved title they just received! Hats off to the coaches for all their support and knowledge, and not to go unnoticed but the parents, siblings, Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles we hear you, we love you! GO ICEDOGS GO!!
