IceDogs Battle Hard On Hockey Day
Welcome to the 2018/19 Regular Season for the Novice Rep IceDogs! This year should be full of ups and downs, highlights and lowlights, wins and losses. Regardless of the outcome it will be an entertaining season!
Today was hockey day in Arran-Elderslie. It was also the first game of the regular season for the Novice Rep IceDogs - FINALLY!
Bruce Peninsula Predators were the lucky team to make their way down to Paisley for an afternoon match vs the hungry dogs.
From the start of the game you could see the IceDogs came ready to play. The first goal of the season came quickly -30 seconds into the game when Connor B finds himself alone in front of the net and buries it past the Predator goalie. Shift change, and not 10 seconds later Owen W. blasts one from the right side and the Icedogs are up by 2. It should be mentioned that Connor B had a heck of a first period as he buried his second and third goal of the year in the first five minutes of the game. The hats were flying then! His linemate, Gryphon B decided to get into the game as well, making a rush down the right side and drilling a shot bar down that actually got stuck under the back bar! Was a beauty.
In the second the Icedogs didn't let up. Goals by Aden M, Gryphon B, Jesse P, Connor B (his Fourth of the game!) kept the momentum in the Predator end for most of the the second.
In the third the Icedogs got a couple more - Gryphon B (his Third - more hats on the ice!), Jesse P (his second).
Alot was made of the number of goals scored in this game. More importantly - to the writer - was the relentless pursuit of the puck and the checking that this team showed today. The line of Anthony K, Owen W and Carter M flew up and down the ice, attacking the puck and taking away the Predator time and space. The defense group of Cohen H, Aden M, Avery W, Waylon G, and William M, stood their ground and took care of their end. When the puck was in the Icedog end they quickly moved the puck up and out of the end. As well they took care of the their goalie Michael M - who made his debut and played a great game coming up huge when he needed to. And the line of Connor B, Gryphon B and Jesse P, had a little magic in their hands today...
All in all it was a great game to start the season. Lots of great plays and a lot of support for each other.
Good game guys. Now get some rest as we host South Bruce tomorrow. Should be another dandy!
