IceDogs Heading to the Finals
Tonight the Novice Rep IceDogs put an exclamation point on a great showing in the Hodges division round robin playoff series.
Once again it was a snowy night heading down to Mildmay to play the final game of the round robin series against South Bruce Blades. Seems every time these two teams meet it is during a snow storm!
Coming off a loss by Minto the weekend before, the team was chomping at the bit and raring to go from the drop of the puck. Both teams battled hard in the first with extended play in both ends. The quick plays and fast skating by the IceDogs showed some holes in the Blades defence when Anthony K. flew down the left side and dished a backhand saucer pass right on to the stick of Aden M. who flew in all alone only to be stopped by a ready Blades goalie.
He later got the best of the goalie when the puck from a face off win by Gryphon B landed right on his stick and he buried it top shelf to open the scoring.
The duo were back at it again a few minutes later. A pretty give and go ended up with Gryphon B behind the net and a shot off the back of the goalie and into the net.
The Blades battled back late in the third when a Blade player got loose and slid one into the IceDog net. Then with the Blade goalie on the bench Gryphon B sealed the deal with an open netter and the game ends in a 3-1 victory.
The whole team played an excellent team game tonight. They supported each other and moved their legs putting pressure on the Blades every chance they had. Connor B, Jesse P and Carter M worked hard in their own end, getting pucks out and winning battles in the offensive end. The defense core of William M, Avery W, Owen W, Cohen H and Waylon G, owned the blue line. They battled hard and took shot after shot on net. Goalie Michael M stood on his head making save after save and directing traffic. As well the line of Aden M, Gryphon B and Anthony K battled hard and drove the Blades crazy with the pestering play they attacked the Blades with.
Great win guys.
Now on to the finals.
