Ice Dogs Refuse to Shelter From the Storm
For the second Saturday in a row the Ice Dogs traveled to Southampton to do battle with the Saugeen Shores Storm.  With their last meeting being a hotly contested affair this afternoons game looked to be another great game.

It didn't look to good at the start of the game for the Ice Dogs as before they even made it to the ice they were battling with equipment issues.  With one piece of missing equipment, and one helmet needing repair it was looking like the roster might be 2 players short for the Ice Dogs.  Luckily they were able to round up a replacement piece of equipment, and get the helmet repaired just before the drop of the puck in the first period.   And what a first period it was.

Both teams came out wanting the puck, and fighting for the puck all over the ice.  There was some very close checking and some contact between a few players from both teams as they jockeyed for position over the other team. This resulted in some rather solid, if unintentional, contact.  Both goalies saw some good chances come at them and turned away everything, leaving no openings for anyone.  The first real opportunity came at the end of the first period when Saugeen Shores took a body checking penalty with just 19 seconds left in the period.  Unable to capitalize in 19 seconds the first period ended 0-0.

Period 2 started with the Storm still short handed, and the Ice Dogs looking to get the upper hand while they had the advantage.  However it wasn't to be as some hard forchecking by the Storm caught the Ice Dogs off guard and the Storm managed to score the first goal short handed at 9:48 of the second period.   The Storm's lead was short lived and just 3 minutes later Maddux O. found the back of the net with the assist going to Avery D. tying the game at 1 each.  Then just 32 seconds after their first goal George I. scored his first of the season with the team unassisted to put the Dogs in the lead.  The Storm was not about to give up, and the Ice Dogs lead was also short lived as the Storm battled back to tie the game at 2 with 2:59 left in the period.  Hard as both teams tried no one else would be able to get it past the goaltenders and the period ended tied 2-2.

The Ice Dogs would strike early in period 3 with Kiernan L. chipping in a rebound with assists going to Avery D. and Levi W.  The high level of intensity would continue throughout the third period as the score remained 3-2 Ice Dogs for almost 14 minutes while the Ice dogs fought off their only penalty of the game.  It wasn't until there was only 19 seconds left that the Ice Dogs could breath a little bit when Kiernan L. popped his second tally of the afternoon unassisted.  It was a game with a wild and hairy start, and staying wild and hairy right until the last shift of the game.

Final Score 4-2 Ice Dogs, with a special shout out to Goaltender Noah J. who made some spectacular game changing saves at key points in the game to help keep the Ice Dogs fired up.  Great Game Everyone!!!!!
