Exciting Opening Weekend of Playoffs!
WOAA playoffs started this weekend for the Atom LL Red team and an exciting start it was with two games scheduled.  Our first playoff game was hosted by The Owen Sound 1 team on Saturday.

With these two teams always having closely matched games it was bound to be another good close game.  Both teams came out hustling, but it would be Owen Sound hitting the scoreboard first. There are a few 'alternative facts' listed on the game sheet unfortunately, and the tying goal for the Ice Dogs at 4:16 of the first period is listed as being scored by Kiernan L., however, I believe it may have actually been scored by Maddux O., or Ben M. , neither Gizmo nor I are certain.  The game would remain tied throughout period two with some hair-raising opportunities at both ends of the ice, shots galore from the Ice Dogs, but the Owen Sound goaltender was really on his game and wouldn't let anything by.  Early in period three The Attack would score to go ahead by one.  Again the Ice Dogs put the Attack goalie to the test with shot after shot, but It wasn't until Levi W. wound his way up ice and found the back of the net unassisted that The Dogs were able to tie the game.    This is how regulation time would end.  We go to overtime.  Furious action at both ends of the ice, including a penalty kill by the Ice Dogs, but the nets at both ends of the ice were off limits to all players and this exciting game would end in a 2-2 tie.  It should be noted that our second goal was also an 'alternative fact' on the game sheet as it was listed as Avery D. scoring the tying goal, but it was actually scored by Levi W.

Sunday saw the Ice dogs travel to Keady to play game 2 of the playoffs against the Rebels. The small ice looked like it might cause issues for the Ice Dogs in the first period as they seemed to struggle to find space to move the puck.  It was the Noah J. and the defence who would step up their games in the first period with Noah J. making some nice key saves to keep his team in the game and the score tied at 0-0.

Period 2 would see more of the same as the Ice Dogs just couldn't seem to find a way to the back of the Rebel net.  But when they finally were able to find the back of the Rebel net the tide would turn for the Ice Dogs in a big way.  At 4:45 Maddux O. would open the scoring with an unassisted tally.  41 seconds later Avery D. would add a second goal assisted by Kiernan L. and Ben M.   Just 6 seconds later, Maddux O. would add his second unassisted goal of the game! Putting the Ice Dogs up by three.  Then with just 16 seconds left in period two Kiernan L. would score his first of the game assisted by Ben M.  bringing the total tally after period two to 4-0 Ice Dogs.

Period three would see the Ice Dogs continue to pad their lead with a goal from  Emmett H. assisted by Maddux O.  at 10:53.  Less than a minute later Keirnan L. would add his second of the day with assists going to Ben M. and Rachel L. (her second assist for the season!) .  At 7:00 Kiernan L. would round out the hat trick with an unassisted goal.  At 5:35 Dominick E. would score his first goal of the season! With the assist going to Avery D..  This would bring the final score to 8-0 Ice Dogs.

Some special notes, congratulations to Noah J. on an incredible game Sunday in Keady earning another shutout!  Congratulations to Ben M. with 3 assists in one game making him our second "playmaker"  on the season!  Congratulations to Dominick E. on his first goal of the season!

The Ice Dogs play Thurs. night at 7pm in Tara vs the Rebels in what is sure to be an exciting rematch.  Co
me on out and cheer them on!
