Lost: team tenacity; if found, please call coach
After a two-loss weekend, the Ice Dog bench must be wondering what happened to the November gusto rapidly becoming a distant memory. No matter who's in the line-up, it seems no one can find the enthusiasm that helped the boys to a series of wins back before Christmas.
Without a few top scorers Saturday, an opportunity for leadership presented itself to a two-line Ice Dog roster at home vs. Shallow Lake 2 in Chesley. However, after the first five minutes, it was ALL Shallow Lake who went on to win 6-0. The Lakers outshot the Dogs 45-3 in the game, all but certainly leaving Bradley with nightmares, if not post-traumatic stress disorder.
On Sunday, we hosted the Peninsula Predators in a game when we had our chances but little finish. Forechecks, back checks, clearing our zone, going to their net with intensity...all were missing. The end result was a disappointing 4-2 finish to a team we owned all year.
So the big question is...how will the boys find the drive to end their season on a high note? Who will remember the intensity that made this a .500 team back in November? Leadership, drive, urgency seem a distant memory...if found, please call Coach Todd. I'm sure the reward will be handsome.
