And So it Ends...For Now
The Ice Dogs wrapped up their regular season with a decent outing against the league's top-ranked Shallow Lake Lakers. Not a win, but a decent show of what's coming this play-off season.
Short a few players for their final regular season affair, the Ice Dogs started strong but couldn't hold off the late rush of the Lakers. While the Ice Dogs carried the play in the first they were not rewarded with the first goal despite a handful of good-looking chances. The Lakers got on the board at the 6 minute mark, and while the boys were able to tie it up two minutes later on a beauty by Gavin, the Lakers reclaimed the lead just 9 seconds later.
It would be that kind of night. Dylan tied it up a minute into the second, only to see the Lakers take the lead for good just over a minute later. Although Shallow Lake would take the final game by a score of 5-2, the Dogs didn't roll over dead in this one. In fact, it did get a little chippy at the end after a few calls were let go both ways--a sign that our boys can match the spirit of the best clubs.
So the Dogs regular season comes to a close, but there's lots of hockey left to play. We will have our playoff schedule announced today, and of course, we host our Ice Dog tournament next Saturday in Tara.
