Bark At the Moon! Series In Three!
Heading down to Lucknow for game three, the IceDogs were focused on finishing this series on Friday night, to prevent having to travel the same road the next day. The iceDogs played a game of generous passing, fast blades, good goaltending, and solid defence, and it brought them the win and the end of the series. Final 5 to 8.
The IceDogs came for this game prepared. Backup goalie, Ashlynn, was there and ready for the call. The team was charged. The game started with Lucknow's test of Austin and they found he was ready for their challenge. The IceDogs started to put the pressure on. Chayse attempted to get it going with some generous passes but we would have to wait (#11) Corson got a pass out to (#16) Austin, who put it away to get on the scoreboard with only 24 seconds left on the clock. We kept the momentum going into the second with a great pass from (#16) Austin to (#21) Bradley and then to (#25) Braydon to put it away for the second goal at 8:36. Lucknow attempted to respond with a three on none rush on our goalie, who handily stood tall and stopped them. At 4:54, taking a pass from Bradley (#21), Jason (#88) stormed down the ice and got the third goal of the game. Our first penalty came at 4:54 when Danny (#5) unintentionally ran over a slow moving Lucknow player. The game gets a bit more exciting when Manager Devon almost receives a puck slap. Woke him right up! Just as the penalty was ending, and despite the heroic maneuvers of the defense, Lucknow finally got on the scoreboard. But the IceDogs answered as they had the whole series...with a goal in the final minute of the period. This time, it would be Will (#13) and (#16) Austin setting up Jason (#88) for our fourth goal with 44 seconds left on the clock.
The third period would be a back and forth contest. Lucknow was waking up. But our Dogs were skating hard and forwards like Mitch were making the other team rush their passes. Clayton (#12) would pull a our final penalty of the whole game but before we could get back to full strength, Lucknow scored their second with a trickling goal. Score is now 2 for them and four for us. Too close for comfort. So Jaydn(#9) makes a beautiful pass to (#13) Will for a beautiful goal at 11:58. Then Jason (#88) gets his hattrick, with assist to (#16) Austin. But Lucknow demonstrated the "never say die" attitude with a battle to the net that earned them their third point. Lucknow was picking up speed, but IceDogs were matching them. Jaydn (#9) got the seventh goal, from a play by player #10 on the scoresheet, (could it have been you, Spencer (#30)?) and a great pass from (#25) Braydon. Even with a player sitting on Tyson in his own net, he kept making saves! At 4:15, Lucknow got lucky with a lifter and the score is now 7 to 4. We get our eighth goal at 3;27 with a move from (#88) Jason to (#16) Austin. But Lucknow took a page from the Doggies book and scored their final goal with only 32.5 seconds left in the game to make the final score 8 for us and 5 for them. The series finished in three and the Dogs were howling at moon! Great game!
