Throwing Everything At Them But The Kitchen Sink!
Saturday morning brought the Kincardine Atoms to IceDog's Chesley Arena.  The Dogs had a hard start but recovered with renewed passion.  Once they got digging, every Dog tested this goalie.  The list of our chances was very long, but not our list of goals.  Next time we may try the kitchen sink!  Final 1 to 4.

The IceDogs were slow moving at the beginning of the first.  Kincardine is a team that likes to get right down to business from the first whistle.  Our defense was put right to work and they didn't flinch.  Dan even took an early shot right off his facemask, shook it off and kept right on going!  But Kincardine got goals 1 - 2- 3.  Dogs were dragging their tails, but Coach Steve called them over and whatever he said, the fans heard "Got it?" and a New and Improved IceDog team were on the ice. Dogs started working.  Corson sent a great pass to Mitch, but that Kincardine goalie was going to make us sweat for every point.

The second period began with Lawson's attempt at 7:30.  Then it was like a long laundry list of chances for the rest of the game for our IceDogs.  I call them:  "almost" goals.  Brad at 9:48 and  Braydon at 9:06.  Tyson's beauty stop at 4:36.  Lawson has another "almost" at 3:04.  But this period also had some other wild hockey moments.  Brad played forever without a stick during a Kincardine rush.  The scary moment when Austin was down on the ice behind their net.  Kincardine kept the pressure on our goalie the whole period as well, but no goals for either team in this period.  That is, until (#88) Jason took a shot with 43 seconds left, was denied, but tried again with 29 seconds left and scored!  End of second, 3 to 1.

Then the Dogs were all about making Kincardine sweat!  Tyson was picking shots out of the air.  Jason had a trip to the sin bin, and Kincardine couldn't use this powerplay to their advantage.  Will was stealing the puck all over the place.  Jason got of the box, grabbed the puck and tried the goalie again, but no.  At 7:08, Jaydn almost got one, with a great pass from Lawson.  Then Kincardine scored their fourth goal.  Nevertheless, the IceDogs don't quit!  At 6:08, Jason takes a shot.  6:01, Spencer gave it a go, and then immediately tried again, and again at 5:32 but still, no.  Braydon had a beauty lifter at 5:16 but still no goal for the Dogs.  Austin had a good chance at 4:35.  Chayse at 3:59.  At the three minute mark, the Dogs were throwing everything at this goalie and he kept getting lucky!  We got a powerplay and have another couple "almost" moments.  Clayton got battered around pretty good.  Our goalie came up with a big save with 48 seconds left on the clock.  The Dogs still took one more big rush and with 30 seconds left and Spencer again almost got us another goal.  But no.  Everything but the kitchen sink.  Buzzer sounded and final was 4 for them and 1 for us.

But there was something that happened, when that final buzzer sounded,  that could have ended much differently and was very dangerous.  While Brad and a Kincardine guy were battling, they went down behind the net and a second IceDog got tangled up with it all.  It resulted in a double minor penalty for head contact.  Play safe, Doggies!  As my mother used to say: "You only get one head."  Learn it.  Live it.  Love it.
