Barnburner!!
Traveling for an early contest on Thursday night to Lucknow, the IceDogs and Lucknow met for their second showdown of the series. The Dogs were fire on ice! And the scoresheet proves it: only one penalty, and 10 goals! Final: 10 to 2.
(The scoresheet we received made me wonder what WAS going on in that little glass booth. We don't even have a number 18, do we? If I missed anything, let me know. And thank you to the good luck now that Ashlynn brings with her when she comes to the games.)
Lucknow started the first period with a test of the goalie which was handily denied. The IceDogs concentrated on their passing game and it made the first period exciting. Finally, at 3:56, receiving a pass from (#12) Clayton, it was Chayse (#6) who got us on the board first. Inspired, the whole team started to light up their goalie with shot after shot. With only 36.1 left in the period, Jaydn (#9) worked herself free, made a backhand pass to Mitch (#19) who put it away. Score 0 to 2.
The next period, Lawson (#8) gets his goal to bring the count to three, from a pass from (#9) Jaydn. Three minutes later, Jaydn (#9) gets her own goal. There was help getting it from our end to theirs, but there was so much action around their goalie, it was hard to see the numbers with the blur of red jerseys. To end the period, Jason (#88) works himself free from four Lucknow players and skates down to score the 5th. Our defense in this game, should be commended for keeping the puck out of our end for most of the period and setting up good runs for the forwards. And we're halfway there.
The start of the period, Lucknow comes to life and scores their first goal. A minute later, the IceDogs respond with a goal by Mitch (#19). Score is now 1 to 6. At 11:34, using good passing skills, Lawson (#8) and Corson (#11) set up a lovely goal for Chayse (#6) who is now looking for the hattrick for this game. He will soundly ring the post a minute later, but the next goal goes to Lucknow during our only penalty. At 5:10, after some IceDog shuffling, (#19) Mitch gets the next goal, and the only hattrick of this game, with the assist to (#11) Corson. Then the Dogs proceed to rattle the goalie by repeatedly ringing the post. It would be Clayton (#12) finally getting our 9th goal, with the assist to (#16) Austin with 3:25 still on the clock. The IceDogs go on to end the period how they have ended the other two in this match up...with a last second goal in the final minute. This time it is Jason (#88) with 42 seconds left. IceDogs were on fire! Series stands at two in our favour.
