The
big ticket in Chesley on Sunday night was at the U18 Rep Tara Legion AEMHA Ice
Dogs home opener vs the Drayton Defenders. The crowd was eager to see some
exciting fast paced hockey and the teams on the ice were up for the challenge
to entertain them.
The fans new what they were in for from the time the puck was dropped with end-to-end action until the visiting team hit the scoreboard first with a goal at the 14:20 mark of the 1st. The home team answered quick with a goal rebound find by Emmett J to even things up at 12:20 with an assist going to Cayden H. The score remained at a draw through the rest of the period with a power play for each team that neither could capitalize on.
The 2nd period was going to look a lot like the 1st with each team scoring again with the Defenders finding one at the 13:07 mark and the Ice Dogs with only seconds to spare at 00:03 on another goal from Emmett J doing the easy part with Kaden W doing most of the hard work forechecking and digging it out of the corner to the front of the net. Yet again the special teams on defence were in fine form with no PP goals to be had on either side with 2 chances with the man advantage for both teams.
After the flood and a pep talk from the critically acclaimed AEMHA coaching staff we were ready for the 3rd period. With lots of scoring chances at both ends and Tyson L doing what he does best making key saves we had to wait until late in the 3rd for the game winning goal at the 1:20 mark. On a rush into the zone, we had a 2 on 1 with Colby H flying in from the left D position to put one past the goalie on a pass from Emmett J to put the icing on the cake and put our AEMHA U18 Tara Legion Rep team in the win column to begin our 20-game season.
The next game for the team is an away game on Sunday October 23rd @ 6:50 vs Listowel Cyclones C.
