Trick or Treat in Blyth?
Hopping on the Tara Legion U18 AEMHA team coach bus we were off to Blyth for a Halloween tilt with the Blyth/Brussels Crusaders.  The game started with the home team welcoming their visitors with a very physical introduction.  This would be a quick learning curve for some players who haven’t seen as much bumping and grinding as they found themselves in.

Things were fast paced, and the goalies were sharp and keeping all scorers at bay until the 5:03 mark when the home team hit the scoresheet.  It would take another 3 minutes for Emmett J to tie things up and our Ice Dogs would take a 1 – 1 score into the 1st intermission.  The special teams wouldn’t get a chance to show their skills in the opening period but that was about to change.

The 2nd period was a physical one to start with the teams finding out what the referees interpret as a little too much spirit.  The Ice Dogs would have the first PP of the game at 13:35 but could not find a way to put one in the net.  The next test would be killing a penalty at 7:20 with Eric G in the box for interference to which the challenge was accepted and met with strong defensive play.  The Ice Dogs would have 3 more Power Plays and at the 2:22 mark Colby H would put them ahead 2 -1.  The period would end, and the teams headed to their rooms for a quick breather and an update on what the coaches saw from their side of the ice.

The 3rd period would be a spirited one as well with the Ice Dogs and their penalty kill as Emmett J received a 2-minute slashing penalty at 10:21. To make things a little more challenging and entertain the crowd AEMHA decided to give the home team a short 5 on 3 but were only able to finish the first kill and then give up a pp goal to get the home team within 1 at the 7:44 mark.  George P decided enough was enough and put the Dogs up by 2 again at 5:53 to end the scoring for both teams for the night.  The Ice Dogs win 4 – 2 to remain undefeated to start the season.

Next game is Friday Nov 4th vs the Wingham Ironmen @ 7:30 in Chesley.
