Lakers Clip IceDogs in OT
The Atom Rep IceDogs headed to Lakerland for a WOAA Round Robin show down on Saturday.  The IceDogs had owned the Lakers this season in regular season play but this is the playoffs and you can throw all those stats out the window.

The IceDogs came out of the gate very slow and the Lakers took the play to them.  In fact, the Lakers were playing the style of play the IceDogs had wanted to play, applying pressure and forcing turnovers.  Several great saves from Peyton L. kept the game at zeroes after one period of play.

The IceDogs found their legs and their game in the 2nd period and and began to get their chances.  The Laker goalie stood tall and the Laker defence kept the chances to one and done.  The score remained tied at nothing as the 2nd period horn sounded.

Early in the third the IceDogs finally found the net when Owen M. banged in a juicy rebound after some good work by Ethan S. behind the net and off a Karden C. bomb.  The IceDogs kept up the checking but you got the sense that the game was nowhere near over.  Shallow Lake kept pressing and taking chances and it finally paid off when a pass went off a Laker shinned and a breakaway goal knotted things up at one.  Ethan S. would ring iron and Jesse P and Brayden P. would connect on a 2 on 1 only to be turned aside by the Laker goalie.  We were off to Overtime.

Overtime was a cautious affair with both teams being extra careful.  A face-off deep in IceDog territory ended up with a drive from the blue line that had eyes and the Lakers would skate away with the sudden victory.

Good teams lose.  And good teams learn and find a way to win the next one.  And that's what this IceDog squad will have to do if they want their playoff season to be a successful one.
