Smack Down at the 'Lake
Fresh off their recent streak, the Atom LL Ice Dogs headed down the road to Shallow Lake to take on the highly touted Lakes Sunday. But what started out as a nice Sunday afternoon drive wound up as a 7-0 wake up call for our Dogs.
Sometimes in the middle of a season, you play a game you wish you could forget. The first match-up of the season against Shallow Lake was one of those kind of games. Short on high light reel plays...well, at least for us. The Lakers popped their first goal just over a minute into the game and they never looked back, protecting leads of 3-0 after the first, 5-0 after the second, and a 7-0 whitewashing when it was all over.
Coach Todd did a great job putting the game in perspective for the team. While no one likes to be humiliated, Todd pointed out the things that needed to be fixed--like clearing the zone safely, staying in position, and attacking the offensive corners--and left it at that...a wake up call to the kinds of games that will fill up the late-season schedule for our boys. The game puck went to Rocco.
Hopefully, the message hit home and the Dogs will be ready for revenge Wednesday vs. the Wild.
