IceDogs Net Victory over Steelheads
Your u15 AEMHA Rep IceDogs had a big weekend of hockey ahead of them...first up:  the Saugeen Valley Steelheads came to town with first place on the line.

The IceDogs had been waiting since Sunday and came out fast, netting two quick goals.  First, Alek F. danced through the neutral zone and sniped one blocker side for a 1-0 lead.  The very next shift, Ethan S. collected a breakout pass and went backhand-shelf for a quick 2-0 lead.  The IceDogs were off and running but the Steelheads had other plans.  Pressing the IceDogs at every turn, they potted a goal of their own and it was 2-1 at the first intermission.  IceDog goalie Peyton L was tested often but equal to the task as the Steelheads turned on the pressure later in the first.

The 2nd period had the IceDogs begin to find their game again.  Carter G. would pot one on the PP early but the Steelheads cashed in again, this on a breakaway as the found a chink in the armour of Petyon.  Some penalty trouble almost let the Steelheads back in the game but the IceDog penalty kill (something that needed some improvement) was solid and Peyton slammed the door shut when the Steelheads got through.  The good kill seemed to help the IceDogs find the momentum and Porter B. slammed home a rebound from Brayden P. for a 4-2 lead.  Owen M. would take the puck to the net (off a good play by Simon J.) and would help his team to a 5-2 lead at the flood.

Despite the score, Coach P wasn't particularly happy with the IceDogs play--the 2nd intermission speech was about getting back to good habits and team play.  After killing off an early penalty, the IceDogs went back to work.  Alek F. would dance in off the blue line and rip home a goal.  Jake F. potted a rebound off some great work by Ian M.  Ethan S. would cap off the night with two more goals (assisted by Waylon, Owen M and Simon J) and the IceDogs skated away with a victory.

The scoreboard was lopsided but the play wasn't.  And the IceDogs will need to be better down the road.  A reset at the Saturday practice will help--and then the boys have to be ready as we travel to Mount Forest to tangle with the Rams on Sunday - puck drop is 7:30 in Mount Forest.
