In Wednesday nights game it lasted 40 minutes.
Your U13 Reps were coming off a huge Championship win with their SilverStick tournament, and took that momentum right in to their first game of the 2nd half of their regular season pool D play.
Icedogs hit the ice to face the Listowel Cyclones, the second half of the season has us playing some pretty tough competitors so we didn't really know what to expect, but your U13s rose to the challenge.
Cyclones struck first at 6:04 of the first, the majority of the first period seen an abundance of one on one battle play.
Icedogs created a big scrum in front of Listowel's goalie and Landry W jams home the first icedogs goal assisted by Connor H and Liam M to square things up at 1. Listowel being that tough competitor did not take kindly to that and with just 2 secs left in the first, sniped their second goal of the period putting them back on top 2-1 to end the first.
To start the second the Cyclones were quick to pot their 3rd giving them a 3-1 lead.
With a face off win back at centre LW Connor H picked up the loose puck carried it in deep to then feed wide open Landon S who ripped home his 7th of the season, closing the gap 3-2. Icedogs and Cyclones had lots of action at both end of the ice, but the 2 tenders were making some epic saves. With just 1:54 left in the Second Calhon U gets a soft pass from Sebass M and found the backbar of the net scoring his 19th of the season to even things up at 3 a piece.
The flood, the rest, much needed for the group with the new format for the remainder of the season. Coaches had some key words during intermission which are "big muscles, pucks deep, loose pucks at face-off, shoot biscuits to quote coach Brent, pucks out, win battles" a lot of words for this crew of 14 with the addition of AP Liam M for last nights game but kiddos said lets do it, we can handle it!
The third period began a little tough for the cyclones finding themselves in some penalty trouble as your Icedogs handled their early 5 on 3 very well , jumping ahead 4-3 with a beautiful passing play Jackson M puts one by Litowels' tender assisted by Landon S and Connor H. Most of the 3rd played out similar to then 2nd with these evenly matched competitors as the clock counted down, your Icedogs called a time out with just 26 secs left but needed the white board chat as they were facing a 6 on 5 defensive zone face-off. Refs drops puck, scramble in the face-off circle, 5 red jerseys and 6 white jerseys and puck squirts loose with Jack T trying to freeze the puck eventually Jack T and the puck ended up inside in the net, allowing the cyclones to knot it up to 4 with just 7 secs remaining. Back to centre for the last face-off, this means red jersey go find a white jersey, time ran out 4-4 tie.
