After 52 games our season has come to an end!
To quote Coach Brent "If you had told me in October this team would finish the season at the OMHA SEMI Finals, then I'd say where do I sign!"
This past weekend your U13 Reps packed their hockey bags for the last time and headed to Halton Hills for the OMHA Championship weekend.
Round Robin play would see us facing off against Kawartha Lake Coyotes in game one. Icedogs would win this game 3-1 with goals going to Connor H, Hunter T, Sebas M, landing the assists are Landry W with 2, Jackson M, and Calhon U.
Game 2 we battled with the Paris wolf pack, and little Jack T would find himself with a shutout as your U13s won 3-0, goals would be scored by Paysen H, Landry W, and Jackson M. Your helpers would come from Landry W, Sebas M, and Calhon U.
The last game of round robin saw us in a rematch 5 months later against the Wallaceburg Lakers. This game was much different 5 months later then our first match. Game would remain scoreless until the 3rd period. Wallaceburg was first on the board and with just 1:31 remaining in the 3rd Calhon U would knot it up at 1 with assists going to Connor H and Hunter T.
Icedogs would finish 1st after pool play and meet the East Lambton Eagles for a 9am Sunday morning Semi final. This game saw end to end action with all hands on deck. Score would remain at 0 for both sides up until the bitter end when the Eagles scored shorthanded at 3:31 of the 3rd,(yes that one stung) Icedog penalty killers were gassed. Game would remain 1-0 to end the Icedogs run at the OMHAs. Every game this crew dug deep and played their hearts out.
Connor H- You have great hands. You make dangling the puck look easy.
Hunter T- Our penalty killing, puck battling, bardown shot machine.
Jackson M- Hard work, fall down and get back up, grind it out in the corner kinda kid.
Paysen H - The dirty work battle kid along the boards, pucks always get out.
Sebas M- Pound it, Pound it, Pound it from the 9pm position beside the net.
Kane W- Always open on the far right side with multiple breakaways, generally burying each one.
Landry W- The gentle giant, with the big frame, that's always in the play creating scoring chances.
Calhon U- Another tall centre men with that hard wrister and natural scoring ability.
Landon S- With the wicked Clap-bomb from the point, always a threat.
Linkin M- "Go-ahead, try to catch him" the fastest U13 Kid on skates. Shut down many breakaways.
Sam F- A smooth puck carrying defensemen, with an offensive touch and a rocket of a snapshot.
Sawyer M- Always pinching, always in the right spot at the right time, very much a roadblock on the point for a little guy.
Declan H- Our back-up/AP come into any game cold and save the day (or silverstick regionals).
Jack T- Don't let his size fool you, from a glove hand to the blocker side, down to the right pad and the left he generally stops everything.
As you can see everyone has a big role on this team, this is why we were so successful this season. We didn't have just one player, we had 14 of them.
Just to recap on how your U13 Reps preformed this season, 12-0 in Tier 3 first half of the season, Georgian Shores Champs Nov 2023, Invited to Lucknow Legion Invitational, Kincardine Regional Silverstick Champs, 1-4-2 in Tier 1 second half of season, Finalist at International SilverStick in Forest, 6-0 in round robin Tier 2 playoffs, WOAA Gregg Division Tier 2 Champs, Semifinalists at the OMHAs which would put up an overall record of 39-9-4 to conclude a 53 game season. This team also had a special year as they were able to play 37 different teams (associations) including the Columbus JR Blue Jackets at international SS.
