Busy Weekend of Hockey for PeeWee IceDogs
The IceDogs hosted Zurich Saturday and traveled to Goderich on Sunday for 2 pre-Christmas games. Let's just say Zurich and Goderich were not really in the Christmas spirit.
The IceDogs first hosted Zurich on Saturday and came ready to play. Just like in Zurich, dirty, behind the play jabs and spears were Zurich's game plan to get the IceDogs off their game. The IceDogs toughed it out (and somehow managed to have the games only penalty). Some quick 2nd intermission thinking by Coach Julie had the team stay out on the bench for the flood and it worked. Down 2-1 (Lance G. had tipped in a shot by the point from Riley J. after a sweet feed to the blue line by Ryan P), the IceDogs came out flying to start the 3rd. Ryan P. drew 3 defenders to him on a rush and fed a wipe open Bryson R. for a one-timer rocket to tie the game. Then, Colby L. started a beautiful 3 way passing play with Bryson to spring George I. who went top shelf to give the IceDogs the lead. Zurich didn't quit and got the equalizer soon after and the two teams would skate to a 3 all draw.
Goderich was more of the same (they sure teach a different game down south!). The IceDogs were quicker and more skilled but Goderich is bigger and definately dirtier with more jabs and sticks to the mid-section. The IceDogs probably deserved a better fate as they were not out-played...just outscored (which is the name of the game.). Despite a plucky effort, the IceDogs fell 5-1 to the Sailors. Tyler B. would rip home a shot from the blue line after Ryan P. and George I. worked the puck around on the power play. Tyler has been playing some very solid hockey lately and it was nice to see him rewarded with a goal (he might have even smiled after ;-)).
Merry Christmas IceDog fans! We might not have gotten a win on this weekend of hockey but is was a winning effort in both games! Have a great Holiday with your families and see you next weekend when we raise the stakes with 3 games in a row!!!
