IceDogs Overcome the Attack!
The PeeWee LL#2 are relishing their spoiler role these days! Having beat the Huron-Bruce Blizzard a couple of days ago to put a dent in their playoff dreams, the IceDogs were off to the Scenic City for a game versus the Attack.
The IceDogs came out of the gate hot and George I. ripped a low wrister by a surprised Owen Sound netminder. A couple of big saves from Dustin V. and the IceDogs had a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
The second period started with Ryan P. causing a turnover inside the Attack zone. Lance G. pounced on the loose puck and went top shelf to get the IceDog some breathing room. The Attack dug in and began to use the body (I think the ref thought it was a Bantam game?) and would get one back. The IceDogs would be on their heels for a bit but didn't break and weathered the storm into the 2nd intermission.
The Attack continued their dirty play into the third and the refs seemed to have the blinders on. But, these IceDogs have learned a think or two over the season and didn't let that de-rail them from their game plan. They chipped pucks and were aggressive themselves. Despite giving up the tying goal with 8 minutes left to play, Ryan P. would cause another turnover and Lance G. jumped on it again, putting a backhanded beauty by the Attack goalie for the one goal lead with 4 minutes left to play. With the Attack pulling their netminder for the extra Attacker, the IceDogs went to work and Lance G. would put an outurn draw (hack weight) into the empty net to seal the deal.
The IceDogs were full marks for their effort and how they weathered some questionable refereeing. They bent but didn't break and earned a well deserved win. Next up, the face their IceDog brothers and sisters in another important matchup--game time is 7:00 in Paisley!!!!
