Sailors Sink the IceDogs
The PeeWee LL #2 IceDogs hosted the Sailors of Goderich on Saturday in Paisley.
The Sailors were coming off a hard fought win over the PeeWee LL IceDog brethren and this IceDog squad was vowing payback.
The game was a see-saw affair early with both teams hemming each other in for extended periods of time. The Sailors would capitalize on a bounce in front of Nathan A. and slam a puck home for a 1-0 lead midway through the frame. A questionable penalty would put the IceDogs on the PK, but big George I. would rip a shot from the blue line and find the back of the net to tie things up at one as the first period came to a close.
The 2nd period had the Sailors taking over the play a bit and a couple of missed assignments on a lost face-off led to a goal against and the IceDogs were down 2-1 as the Zamboni cleaned the ice at the 2nd intermission.
The third period saw the IceDogs pull out all the stops trying to tie this one up and several quality chances just didn't go in. The pesky IceDogs were getting under the Sailors skin and several behind the play infractions went undetected by the boys in stripes. The Sailors would get another lucky bounce off a face-off and go up 3-1 but the IceDogs kept coming. Nathan was pulled for the extra attacker but the IceDogs just couldn't get to the high quality scoring area and finally succombed 3-1.
The IceDogs were full marks for effort but Lady Luck wasn't wearing white on this day. Efforts like that will probably have the IceDogs winning more games than losing as we enter the final weeks of the Regular Season.
