IceDogs Rally to Calm the Storm
The PeeWee LL #2 IceDogs braved the winter roads to Southampton on Wednesday night to tangle with a rough and tumble Saugeen Shores squad.
The Storm came out of the gate strong and agressive. Their aggressiveness caught the IceDogs off guard (and apparently the referees too) as some dirty plays were let go. Some strong play around the IceDog net got the Storm a goal and the IceDogs limped into the first intermission down 1-0.
The second period had the IceDogs getting their "Grrrrrrr" on and fighting back. The Storm would get another to go up 2-0 but the IceDogs were definately starting to get their game going. Using their speed to counter the Storm's aggressive play, the IceDogs broke away to tie things up at 2 (Nathan P. and Riley J.) getting the goals. Ryan P. would swat home a rebound to get the IceDogs up 3-2 and then Lance G. would net his first of 2 on the PP, off a sweet feed from Calista H. Lance would bury another one late in the 2nd and the IceDogs were up 5-2 as the second period came to a close.
The third period was all IceDogs as the fired pucks from everywhere and used a strong team game to keep the Storm at bay. George I. would get 2 more goals and Ryan P. would close out the scoring to salt this one away by a score of 8-2.
This IceDog team is learning the value of speed and a team game---it is their greatest asset and if they play that way going forward, they will be a tough team to beat. Great job IceDogs! You never gave up in this one and stuck to Coach Julie's game plan until the very end!
