Blades Scrape by IceDogs
The South-Bruce Blades skated into town for a Thursday evening show-down with the PeeWee LL 2 IceDogs in Paisley. The Blades and IceDogs had skated to a 4 all draw last time out so it was a battle of two evenly matched teams.
The IceDogs came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and if not for the stellar play of the Blades tendy, this one might have been 2-0 early. But, as is often the case, some big saves at one end lead to a goal at other and the Blades fired a seeing-eye goal to take a 1-0 lead. Despite an IceDog push, the Blades would nurse their 1 goal lead until the end of the first period.
The 2nd period had the IceDog determined to get on the board and it was Riley J. leading the charge. Dancing gingerly out of his own end, he eluded a few Blades players and hit the opposition zone. Moving wide to draw a defender to him, he fed a sweet pass to Ryan P. who buried it to knot things up at 1. The Blades got a scrambly one back after Nathan A. made several saves in succession but Ryan P. would rip a wrister from the top of the circle after gaining the zone off another sweet pass from Tyler B. She was all tied up at two's heading into the 2nd intermission.
Maybe it was the hot dressing room, maybe it was the break, but the IceDogs came out flat in the 3rd and it wasn't long before the Blades took advantage and popped a goal to take a 3-2 lead. The IceDogs weren't able to get their game back and succombed by a 3-2 score.
The IceDogs continue to learn lessons as the season moves along. Lots of good things happened on this night and that will be the focus moving forward as the host Wingham on Sunday night.
