Game 2 of the Grind is in the books.
The U13 Tier 2 Icedogs faced off against another tough, non tiered association vs Central Perth in Monkton on Saturday.
The weather outside did not feel like a day we should have all been in an arena on an unusually warm sunny Saturday.
Dean and Farron shared the goal duties again today, and once again were very busy against a far more stacked team then our own. We are very fortunate to have such a dynamic duo, guarding the pipes for our group.
It has been made quite obvious, that the tiering recommendations set out by the WOAA were not adapted by many associations. Being a lower tier squad facing off against some really stacked teams sure makes it hard to keep your core motivated and engaged. Efforts overall were down compared to our last game and it was tough to muster up any offensive pressure all game long. Better teams will take advantage of that, and Central Perth certainly did right from the drop of the puck.
A couple of players were a bit under the weather, and part way through the game, we lost Evan to illness, on our already shortened defensive core.
Moving forward, all we can do is persevere and let the cards fall where they may. This group has tons of heart and as we work on more fundamentals, only good things will come.
Chin up kids, this part of the season definitely does not dictate who we are as a group.
