Kincardine Silverstick Regional Champs!
The U15 Rep team are the 2025 Kincardine Regional Silverstick Tier 2 Champions!
The Dogs went undefeated, going 5-0 to run the table at the tournament and punch their ticket to the International Silverstick in Forest.
The U15 rep Icedogs shook off the Christmas dinner meat sweats, and brought their A game to the Kincardine Regional Silverstick tournament December 27-30.
The Dogs kicked off the tournament with a convincing 8-1 win over the Minto Mad Dogs, and followed that up with a 5-1 win over the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders in Ripley. They went back to Ripley on day 2 to face the Mount Forest Rams, and put an emphatic end to the round robin play with a 6-0 victory.
The 3-0 record, and solid goals for percentage netted the Icedogs a 2nd place overall finish in the round robin, and a bye through to the semi finals. That was cause for celebration, so the team went back for some fellowship, on the Arran-Elderslie townline (to represent the team name properly)
With an off day on the 29th, the Dogs rested up for a semi final match vs the Goderich Sailors in Tiverton. These Icedogs came out flying, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, but then let the foot off the gas and the Sailors took advantage, knotting the game up at 2. A well timed time-out by Coach Don thwarted the Goderich momentum, and the Icedogs got back to playing their game, and started filling the net again. With 4 goals in the 3rd period, the Dogs punched their ticket to the Championship against the Walkerton Capitals.
In a packed Davidson Centre, the Icedogs came out flying again, with an early first period goal to set the tone. They followed that up with another goal early in the second, and capped off an excellent 2 periods with a buzzer beater with only 7 seconds left to close out the second period.
A fresh flood gave the Capitals a jolt, and they came out heavy and hard, hitting every Icedog in sight. The Icedogs fought back with a couple turnovers that turned into breakaways, but the Caps netminder was on his game on this day. The Caps scored an early third period goal to get the Icedog faithful fans on the edge of their seats. Another great call by Coach Don, taking a timeout and nipping the Walkerton momentum, the Dogs bounced right back to control the play again.
The boys buttoned this game up just over halfway through the third with another goal to go up 4-1, taking the pressure off, and cruising to the finish line, and an entry into the International Silverstick Finals, in Forest, Ontario January 10-12. Follow along for updates, and hopefully a venture to bring home another Silverstick Banner!
Congratulations to the players, coaches and families on a great tournament win!
