Icedogs VS Icedogs, to end the regular season.
The parents would weather another blistery night in Paisley to watch the U13A and U13B teams face off in the final game of the regular season.
The task at the beginning of the season was to split this group into two equal squads. After both teams having successful seasons, it would come down to the final game of the season to see how close these two squads really are.
Parents and family were in for a treat as it was obvious from the puck drop, this was going to be a fast paced and close match up.
It started out as a game of inches, with both squads thwarting off their opponents attempts. It was end to end until the almost the 6 minute mark, when Cole W would open the scoring with a hard low shot that deflected off the defenders stick.
The rest of the period continued at the high pace, and Cole F and Corbin M had to be sharp manning their nets.
Both teams worked hard on forechecking and defending their own ends. The 1st would wrap up in with the U13A group just barely ahead 1-0.
The speed of the game did not falter into the second period. Just 5 minutes into the 2nd, Seth H would carry the puck deep into the zone and fire a hard low shot from a wide angle, putting the A squad up by two.
A penalty to Cole W just minutes later was fought off and the A group would hold on to a 2-0 lead heading off for the flood.
Both teams returned from the dressing rooms and picked up where they left off. A back and forth battle with neither team slowing the pace one bit.
Despite the claim "I barely touched them" Brandon N was in the sin bin for a tripping call at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd. The A squad would kill off their second penalty of the game.
The quick pace continued for the rest of the period and as the clocked ticked down, the final buzzer rang with Cole F getting another shutout in a 2-0 win.
Thinking back to those early skates in September, it is truly remarkable to see how both of these teams have progressed this season.
We were tasked to split these groups into equal squads and tonight's game proved without any doubt, these two teams are equally matched. Both competed in the same division this season and only finished 2 spots apart, separated by 9 points.

Congratulations to our own U13A team for finishing the regular season, at the top of the standings in their division, without a loss and a record of 16-0-2. A feat that is difficult to achieve at any level.
