Icedogs set the pace quick against the Storm.
It was a bit of greasy drive to Paisley on a Monday night. The Icedogs were ready to host the visiting Saugeen Shores Storm #2 team.
With some slow starts to the last few games, it was time to sit the goup down and remind them of our motto since the very start of the season. "Work Hard... and Good Things Happen"
The message must have stuck on this night, because the Icedogs came out, ready to rock.
It took only seconds for the Icedogs to strike first. A blistering shot by Hunter G, was too much for the Saugeen Shores goalie to handle and the speedy Avelyn was right there on the door step to fire the rebound home.
Hunter G would get another one of his own 30 seconds later, tucking the puck up where they keep the peanut butter on a partial break from a well placed feed from Harley M.
The defense kept the Saugeen locked into their end... at one point we held our breath with anticipation as Myles K briefly thought about sending a "Clapper".... or a "Swiffer" (as described from the bench)
The Icedogs were relentless with plenty of forechecks and zone control. The Icedogs could not capitalize on a late period power play after Myles K was body checked to the ice.... okay well honestly.... it was more of a "Boop" or maybe even a slight "Boink"
The Icedogs would carry their momentum into the second and it only took a few minutes for Hunter G to dance his way in alone giving the Icedogs a 3-0 lead.
Saugeen Shores did not give up and battled hard where they could. This resulted in a couple of penalties of our own with Avelyn S and Hunter G having back to back time outs.
The Icedogs had two great penalty kills and when needed Cole F made some dandy saves to keep the puck out of our net.
As the seconds wound down in the period, another great forecheck deep in the Saugeen Shores zone, left Harley M with a beauty goal with help from Avelyn S and Hunter G.
Not much was needed to be said during the flood as the team was firing on all cylinders.
We did shuffle things around to give some players a break on the front end.
Saugeen Shores did their best to try to fight their way back into the game.
The score remained unchanged and the Icedogs were short handed again early in the period. Halfway through the period though, Liam M would keep his scoring streak alive by driving the net and picking up the rebound from Harley M, and tucking it in the far corner. A couple more penalties came the Icedogs way as things got a little chippy in front of Cole F. near the end of the 3rd. Another successful penalty kill ended the game at 5-0 Icedogs.
An exciting game to watch and it was great to see all the players giving their best effort.
A shout out to Saugeen Shores goaltender Jack G, who saw well over 40 shots during the game and made some dandy saves.
Lets keep the momentum going for the Seaforth tournament this weekend!
