U13A Hockey Family comes through in a pinch!!
Its a Saturday night in Southampton and the Icedogs were ready to take on the Saugeen Shores Storm. (Well, almost ready)
The feel good story of the night, was our U13A family coming together to have enough equipment for one of our players to be able to play. With a family members away, Liam's bag was left in the wrong vehicle. When the message came out he could not play, we knew that was not going to happen. With a shout out to the group, enough gear was brought to the arena so the lad could play. And Ohhhhhh did he ever!!!
The coaches were trying to break the habit of the last few slow starts for the Icedogs and it took an early goal from the Storm #2 team to wake them up. Just seconds into the game, the Icedogs looked flat and the Storm struck quicly.
This got things going for the speedy Mr Cole W, who picked up a pass from Gabe S, and fired a top corner bullet to tie things up at one just 2 minutes after the Storm goal.
Things were a bit chippy which gave the Icedogs a power play around the 5 minute mark. With Liam M and Harley M buzzing the crease, Harley M tucked home the puck past the sprawling goaltender.
It was after that assist, we could tell the hodge podge of gear Liam was wearing, meant nothing. Liam would pop two goals of his own just 11 seconds apart before the period was done. One solo and one assist to Ben H.
The second period would remain scoreless and the Icedogs could not take advantage of two more power plays.
Liam M would be busy again in the 3rd. Netting one more of his own (Assist to Hunter G) and assisting on a laser shot from Seth H and a juicy rebound goal by Jaxson T.
The icedogs would successfully kill of two power plays ending the game with an 8-1 Victory.
We did ask Liam if we needed to keep all that gear for him, to keep it's magical powers going.... simple answer..."Nope.... I am good"
