Icedogs squeak out a win over the Caps
The U13A Icedogs travelled to Walkerton Saturday afternoon to face off against the Walkerton U13 #2 team.
With their tournament win in Kincardine, a long way back in the rear view mirror, the Icedogs soldiered on by returning to the rink in Walkerton for another regular season game.
The Icedogs seemed to lack a little umph in their strides today and it was quickly determined that the Walkerton tender was not going to make it easy. The first period would end scoreless with most of the play occurring in the Walkerton end. Their netminder Corbin D. was kept busy but would kick aside many attempts from the Icedogs and many opportune rebounds were left unattended.
As the second period began, with all the play in the Walkerton end again, it was only a matter of time until someone found the twine. With only a minute and a half off the clock, the icedogs finally solved the Walkerton netminder. After two failed jabs and shots from Gabe S and Liam M, Avelyn S picked up the juicy rebound and snuck one past the sprawling Walkerton netminder.
The Icedogs would spend a chunk of the last 6 minutes short handed with to Cole W sitting in the sin bin for a double minor. Remember players, referees do not take kindly to extra chatter after a call.
The Icedogs would have a chance to regroup during the flood at the end of the 2nd and return to the dressing room for some coaching motivation.
The weary Icedogs would return for the 3rd, still looking off their game. Cole W would redeem his time in the sin bin in the second by stepping in from the blue line and firing a doozy over the shoulder of the Walkerton net minder with 6 minutes left to play.
The Icedogs would squeak out a 2-0 win in the end. Another mark in the win column for the players and will be looking to be back in true form when they host the Howick team, Wednesday Dec 18, back home in Paisley.
