Ice Dogs Edge Lakers
The Atom LL White Ice Dogs and Shallow Lake Lakers duelled on Saturday morning and it all came down to guts, grit and determination.

Word is out that this Ice Dog team is a tough matchup.  As the Ice Dogs go through the 2nd half of the schedule, the teams they are facing are playing a tough, checking style of hockey and these Lakers were not any different.  But, these Ice Dogs are a resilient bunch and they were looking to keep that win streak alive on a Saturday morning in Chesley.

The Ice Dogs got on the board early when George P. separated his man from the puck.  Ryan P swooped in to gobble it up and went top shelf (where his Mom keeps the cookie jar!) to give the Ice Dogs a 1-0 lead.  Then, it was goaltender Josh S. turn to shine.  The Lakers mounted a furious attack and Josh was up to the test, with an out of this world save with the paddle of his stick (shades of Carey Price!)  The Lakers would eventually get one on a breakaway and the period ended 1-1.

The 'Dogs and Lakers continued to battle all over the ice and both teams struggled to mount an attack with the tight-checking style of hockey.  The Lakers would pounce on an Ice Dog turnover and slip one by Josh to make it 2-1 as the period ended.

Bent, but not broken, the 'Dogs came out flying in the third.  Ryan P would bank one in off the goalie after some hard work in front of the net from Lucas W and Gavin H.  Josh was asked again to make some saves in close and the Ice Dogs forged ahead when Austin G. would go on one of his patented rushes, making a nifty deke on the Laker goalie to score.  The Ice Dogs continued to check hard while the Lakers pulled the goalie for the extra man.  However, the Ice Dogs hung on for a 3-2 win.

I think the Ice Dogs just got a scent of the playoffs--this is the type of game they hope to playing late into March.
