Teamwork Wins Games!
The Atom Ice Dogs worked together and found a way to win against the two toughest opponents in our division.
The first test was at home in Tara this past Thursday night when the Shallow Lake Lakers came to town. The Lakers took control of the game with goals in the first and second period and led the game 2-0 through two.
The Ice Dogs fought back in the third and brought the game back within reach when Logan scored with the help of Jake at 11:25 only to see Shallow Lake press and take back their two goal lead 33 seconds later.
The team didn't quit and continued to work hard. Logan scored again at 7:03, Ryan tied the game at 4:55 and Owen broke the tie at 1:52 to take the lead 4-3. A late penalty gave the Lakers almost a full minute of power play time. The Lakers pulled the goalie and pushed with 6 attackers only to see Aiden hold the fort for the win.
Saturday the team traveled to the Plex to take on the Saugeen Storm 2. With the absence of Logan and Will we moved Josh and Jake to wing and rotated two centers. Jakob opened the scoring in the first period and the Ice Dogs held the lead through 10 minutes of play.
The Storm tided the game in the second and it remained 1-1 after two periods of play. The Ice Dogs took back the lead just past the 12 minute mark when Ryan scored with Jakob assisting. Ryan made it 3-1 thirty seven seconds later with an unassisted marker. The Storm inched closer scoring again with 3:31 remaining.
Both teams skated hard and the Storm took a penalty for tripping with 2:22 remaining. The Ice Dogs never got a chance on the power play as curfew time had come just at the penalty call. The Ice Dogs won the game 3-2.
More great hockey to come when we are back to Shallow Lake on the 25th.
