Another Early Morning Win for the Atom Girls
The Atom Girls were up bright and early once again this weekend with home ice advantage making the trip to the rink a bit shorter. The Atom Girls took on the Walkerton Capitals at the Chesley Arena. It was a pretty even match up through the bulk of the game but the IceDogs prevailed winning 1-0.
The first period was fast one, with both teams pushing hard. Despite the Icedogs out shooting the Capitals the score remained 0-0. Second period got a little rougher. With the Capitals getting not one but two penalties as they tried to get one up on the IceDogs. With some good work by the defense and great saves by goaltender Ashlynn S. the IceDogs once again out shot their opponents. However they still could not get one in the net.
The third period both teams were tiring. The first 10 minutes played out much like the first two periods. Then after a timeout and a pep-talk from Coach Dennis the IceDogs began to show some extra aggression. The crowd got louder each time someone broke away from the play. Then when everyone though the game would end in a 0-0 tie, with less than a minute to play, Jaydn W. took a gamble on a shot from just inside the Capitals end and it paid off! The Capital took a time out and pulled their goaltender but it wasn't enough. Final Score 1-0 IceDogs.
