Hello IceDog Nation! It's been too long!
As we head into September, the AEMHA Executive wanted to update you on the upcoming hockey season:
The tryout schedule for our U11, U13 and U15 teams is being finalized but at this time we still don't know the ice times that are available to us. I know everyone is anxious to hit the ice but please stay patient as we hammer out the details.
Tryouts can be a stressful time for players, parents and coaches! Our AEMHA coaches are rounding up evaluators that have lots of experience so that players will be judged as fairly as possible. They are also hoping to secure a tryout game or two, although that depends on the willingness of other centres.
For your player, you can make tryouts a good experience if you:
- make sure your equipment fits, stick is cut off right etc. Nothing worse than not looking your best because your equipment isn't quite right.
- be positive and optimistic but it's ok not to make the rep team...our Local League Program is one of the best in the business (I've personally been a part of it many seasons)...making the Rep team is an honour and a privilege but not the be all and end all of a successful hockey season.
- be a good listener during drills - it stands out!!
- good body language - don't slam your stick or the boards if a drill doesn't go right...that stands out too....get back in line and do it again...most tryout drills are repeated over and over and you will get another chance!
These are just a few tips! If you are interested in trying out and aren't sure what the next step is or are new to our Organization, please feel free to reach out to an Executive Member or one of the Rep Coaches (email me at [email protected]
and I'll point you in the right direction). They love hockey (almost as much as you do!) and will be happy to help!
Good luck IceDogs! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer because the Rinks are calling!
