New Jerseys, new numbers, same team
Saturday afternoon, your U13 reps once again packed their bags and hit the highway heading south to Hensall to face the Mid-Huron Huskies, who just came off their regional silver stick win.
Your U13s were sporting new jerseys and new numbers but the family unit remained the same. Huge shout out to all sponsors involved in getting these Icedogs looking sharp in these freshly designed jerseys.
So going into Saturdays game Jack T had an injury while doing his calligraphy (too much pressure on the pen) which has him on the sidelines for 2 weeks. But that didn't stop him from joining the bench to cheer on his teammates.
Following all the rules, coach Brent dug deep into the roster and signed AP Sweet Willy H between the pipes for Saturdays matinee.
Coaches also got a call saying Sawyer M had thought he pulled a muscle belly dancing and he wouldn't be at the game. With 5 minutes before departure Coach Jay got a call saying he was up for the game which gave us our 3rd D as Sam F is sidelined on IR with a sickness even his crystals couldn't heal.
Sweet Willy looked solid in warm up, ok fans now for puck drop.
Icedogs win the draw to start the first period and just 17 sec in to the game Hunter T slides one home to get Icedogs on the board first. 2 minutes later in a new position for the game being down Sam F, Sebastian M unloads fro the point, assisted by Jackson M to put Icedogs up 2-0. which would also end up being your GWG.
The huskies found themselves in some penalty trouble and which a solid blue line, defence were able to uncover a loose puck keep the play deep in the huskies zone and after a short battle beside the net Kane W nets his 6th of the season un assisted on the Power play.
Icedogs left a man unattended with just 1 minute left in the first breaking Sweet Willys shut out in his debut. With the clock counting down Cal U feeds Landon S on the point with his "Big Clapper" and at 00:12 to put Icedogs up 4-1 on their second Power play.
To start the second the first 3 minutes were quite scrambly, Paysen H found himself in the right place at the right time and managed to get a "garbage goal" putting Icedogs up 5-1. Once again the U13s weren't happy with just 5, so at 9 min mark of the second Paysen H got hurt, So coaches shuffled the bench Landry W got one of his old time wingers back Connor H. The other forward line not wasting any time after the injury, Cal U gets a pretty pass in the slot from Hunter T to score the 6th.
Coaches Corner, while the ice gets a flood coaches have time to re-employ the bench with some minor positional shake-ups to be able to withstand the 3rd.
Third period play seen your Icedogs and Huskies just playing a back and forth possession style game with multiple scoring opportunities at both ends but both goalies stood solid. To mimic his first goal Landon S thought it was necessary to score the same goal with the almost the same time remaining (00:15) left on the clock assisted by Cal U to finish things up 7-1.
Up next the U13s will have some family bonding time with 2 practices before our next game in Mount Forest on Sunday December 3 @ 5:15pm.
