U13 WOAA TIER 2 CHAMPS
This past weekend was filled with back to back action, Icedogs hosted the Drayton Defenders on Saturday March 16. The Tara Barn was full, the tunes were pumping, the stage was set, your U13 Reps ready to go for a noon puck drop in game one of this WOAA Tier 2 Championship series.
Well, it didn't take these Icedogs long to get on the board first as Calhon U rips one home at 7:10 in the first assisted by both line mates Hunter T and Jackson M. The Drayton Defenders responded with one just 13 secs in to the second period. The next 7 minutes seen a lot of end to end play and eventually Kane W turns over a loose puck in the Defenders end netting his 6th of the playoffs unassisted, which would in turn be the GWG. Icedogs not quite done yet in the second period as Sawyer M recovers a loose puck in his own end carrying it out and feeding Landry W, who takes the Defender defensemen wide and slides one through the slot to Connor H, who puts the Icedogs up 3-1. Third period Drayton took an early penalty and only 45 seconds into the period and on the Power Play Hunter T roofs his 5th of the playoffs with the helper going to Landon S. With the Icedogs playing 4 minutes of the 3rd short handed, they still managed to come out on top with a 4-1 win putting them up 1-0 in this 4 point series.
Game 2 seen the same home crowd travelling south to the PMD Arena in Drayton. First period Icedogs came out what the coaches would called a bit "flat", allowing the Defenders to put the first one up and the score remained Drayton 1- Icedogs 0 after 1.
During the quick 2 minute rest between the first and second coaches had a "All hands on deck" chat and your Icedogs started into the Second period with Sebas M pounding home his 1st of the playoffs assisted by his big centermen Landry W. Nine minutes later Icedogs find themselves on a power play and as the coaches preach "shoot the puck" Sam F gets a soft feed from Hunter T down low and buries his snapshot from the point which would result in the GWG, but just wait we are not done yet and Icedogs have another power play, Landry W slides home his 7th of the playoffs with a magnificent give and go feed from Connor H. With 32 seconds left in the second Calhon U picks up a puck in the neutral zone breaks down the left hand boards ripping one back bar and down unassisted.
Time for a well deserved break while they flood the ice.
Like I said these Icedogs still weren't done, and Calhon U gets things started again 4 minutes into the 3rd scoring his 9th of the playoffs with a beautiful backhand pass from Sam F. The next 6 minutes these kids played "pucks deep, and one chase" to wear down the remainder of the 3rd and with just under 2 minutes to go Hunter T nets 2 more for the Icedogs with the first unassisted and the second on the power play assisted by Linkin M. There you have it your U13 Rep Icedogs are the WOAA Tier 2 Champions. With the final buzzer and a small celebration with tender Jack T at net, Icedogs lined up at the blue line and received their medals and banner. We wish Drayton all the best as we both head down to the OMHAs on Easter Weekend at the Mold Master complex in Halton Hills.
