Bears Down the 'Dogs
The Dog House in Tara was packed last night to see the season opener for the U9 Group A Icedogs! The Icedogs showed their meddle in their first full ice game, that's for sure. Battling back and forth, eventually dropping a close one to the Owen Sound Jr Attack, 7-4.
The Icedogs and Attack played a very even first period, sizing each other up to an eventual 0-0 tie after 1.
The second period opened with an unusual start, with an Attack forward forgetting we switched ends, and making a great dash and shot on his own goalie, but was (unfortunately) thwarted by a great save by the Attack goalie.
The Attack took that as a wake up call, and put up 3 quick goals, before the Icedogs got their first of the season, a net front garbage goal by Ryder T. The Attack replied back, to take a 4-1 lead, and then the Icedogs took a tripping penalty to seemingly make matters worse. However, with some more space opened up on the penalty kill, the 'Dogs Cooper M and Mason G each getting shorthanded markers for the Icedogs. That was followed up by a second tally from Ryder T, and we had a 4-4 tie after 2!
The third period started even before the Bears put the pressure on, netting 3 quick goals mid way through the 3rd period. The Icedogs battled, only to be stopped by a very game Attack netminder, eventually dropping the game 7-4. Not much rest for these guys, as they are off to Innisfil for the weekend for the 21st annual Break the Ice Tourney. Go IceDogs Go!
