A-Team Offense Shines
Your U13 A Team took to the ice twice this weekend, with back-to-back home games.
First to visit was Owen Sound Red, which has a lot of skaters. As they skated during warmups, it was a bit intimidating to the small Ice Dog squad. The Junior Attack came out buzzing, scoring first, and trying to get the Ice Dogs on their heels. The Dogs, however, undeterred, fought back late in the period to even things up as Aden M, assisted by Jake F got us on the board. The Ice Dogs came out in the second with more confidence and Aden M broke through again, scoring within in the first minute, putting the Dogs up by one. In a scrambly play, Perry S was in the right spot to bang home a beauty, with assists to Aden M and Jake F. The Junior Attack, however, did not let this affect them, battling back for two of their own, knotting things up at three. The Ice Dogs were frustrated but Aden M quickly rebounded and put them back up, scoring two beauties, with the second assisted by Quinn C, allowing them to head to the dressing room up by two. The coaching staff delivered a message to spread out, pass more and tighten up the D. The team came out for the third FIRED UP! Mack M, with a good heads-up play, fired the puck up the boards, where Aden M was able to pick it up and tickle the twine, putting the Ice Dogs up by three. Next up were Perry S, Chase G and Carter G, with some stellar passing, Carter G and Chase G fed Perry S a beauty and he popped in his second for the day. The Ice Dogs continue to put their work hats on and battle for tough goals. First was Braden N from Mack M and Dylan L and ten seconds later, Tom M sent a puck up and Jake F battled his way to the net and fired it top shelf. Owen Sound, determined to show they were still in this one, came back down, scoring a scrambly one. A hard-work goal on their part, for sure. However, Aden M, thanks to a stellar pass from Quinn C, would come back down and pop one last puck in the net. The Junior Attack scored one late, but it was out of reach.
On Sunday evening, Bruce Penninsula would come to Chesley for a visit. The coaching staff encouraged the team to learn lessons from mistakes made yesterday; spread out, pass more and tighter defense. The A-Team Ice Dogs bought into it, hitting the ice and executing the plan. The game was a little rougher than yesterday, but the Ice Dogs definitely shone! Aden M once again found the back of the net, scoring several, sprinkled in with a hat trick by Mack M. One of these goals was coined 'the Mack McDavid', as it was an absolute beauty; he dangled their defense and deked the goalie. Jake F, being the hard worker he is, found the back of the net tonight as well. They couldn't have done it without a little help from the teammates setting up some beauty plays with lots of spot on passes. The highlight of this game was definitely every player contributing defensively, and Lucas B making some stellar saves! This was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a team victory. The coaching staff was beyond ecstatic with this effort and Coach Chris' final comment was 'I love it when a plan comes together'!
