Game 1 WOAA Championship - IceDogs Win!
The U13 Rep IceDogs were hosting the BCH IceDogs in Game 1 of the WOAA Championship on Sunday afternoon in T-Town.  Fresh off a monumental Game 4 win over Minto, the IceDogs were trying to muster up the same energy vs BCH.

The boys from Arran-Elderslie did manage to find some jump in the early going and played much of the game in the BCH zone.  Several chances just went wide or found their way into the BCH Tendy's equipment.  Aidan S. was sharp in the early going and thwarted some BCH chances, making difficult saves look easy.  With time winding down in the first, IceDog sharpshooter Ethan S. collected a loose puck and buried it for a 1-0 lead at the first recess.

BCH is a hard checking team and the IceDogs were full marks for earning their chances against them.  Brayden P. cut to the net hard a la Brad Marchand but the BCH goalie and Defense were equal to the task.  Ace in the hole, Simon J. would get a breakaway shorthanded only to be denied by the goalie.  It would remain 1-0 at the flood.

The third was probably the IceDogs (AE) best period.  Porter B. would ricochet one off the cross bar and Jesse P. was denied on another breakaway.  The BCH team was having a tough time busting through the 5 player checking of the boys from Arran-Elderslie.  The Arran-Elderslie team definitely had the better chances despite not scoring but they didn't give up much either and would skate off with a 1-0 victory in Game 1.

This is the type of game the IceDogs have had trouble winning in the past.  But today, they looked like a team that has learned valuable lessons from close games that were lost.  And that bodes well for what's to come.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Hensall--it's a bit of a hike but it might be worth it if you are looking for something to do....both teams are bound to come out swinging early in this one!  And there is a WOAA Championship Trophy on the line!
