PeeWee LL IceDogs Take Hard Luck Loss on IceDog Day
The PeeWee LL (#2) IceDogs were coming off a hard-earned comeback tie in their season opener and were ready to roll on Hockey Day in Arran-Elderslie vs. their IceDog brethren, PeeWee LL #1.
PeeWee #1 was hitting the ice for game action for their first time and you couldn't fault their enthusiasm as they took the play to PeeWee #2. However, Dusty "PuckStopper" was equal to the task. Coach Waddell's team would eventually break through after a fortuitous bounce sent Lucas S. in all alone and he buried his first of two on the day to break the ice. The first period would end 1-0.
Coach Waddell's club would take a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd after Cole L. outworked and out hustled his way to the net and fed Leithan B. for a tap in. Ryan P. would get Coach Ried's team on the board after he banged in a Riley J. rush rebound and you could see that Coach Ried had her team going as they began to even out the play. Coach Waddell's team would get another on a end-to-end rush by Nick P., as he fired a laser into the back of the net and the score would be 3-1 IceDog #1 after 2 periods of play.
Coach Ried gave an inspired speech and pleaded the IceDogs to get their feet moving and step up their checking game and it paid dividends early. Ryan P would break in all along and rip a backhand blocker side to get the his team within a goal. But IceDog #1 got some big saves when they needed it late and they would get another goal late by Lucas S. to take this one 4-2.
Thanks for all the IceDog fans that made Hockey Day in Arran-Elderslie a huge success! Good luck to both IceDog Teams as they head into their early portions of their schedule.
