PeeWee LL #1 pull off a win in their home opener.
Our PeeWee LL#1 opened our regular season with a tilt against our closest rivals, the AEMHA PeeWee LL#2 team.
It took 1:23 into the first period, when a defensive breakdown at our blue line sent Lucas S. all alone on a breakaway, rifling a shot into the top of the net to put us ahead 1-0
The rest of the period was a back and forth affair, seeing close chances from both sides. Our Icedogs started to fade a bit near the end of the period but Owen W stood his own between the pipes.
The second period started off with our dogs looking a bit dog tired. However Nick P stayed persistent and after a small battle at the blue line, he broke free and fired a long hard shot towards the net that hit a defenders leg and bounced into the open cage making it 2-0
Just 4:25 into the second.The PeeWee LL#2 team took advantage of a lapse in defensive zone coverage and Ryan P was left alone for a drive to the net, beating Owen W at 9:15 in the second to bring them within 1.
The boys started out with a bit more spring in their step starting the third. During the flood the coaches had to press the reset button as the boys looked lost late in the second.
Well only a few minutes into the third, Cole L. set up Leithan B. with a beauty feed allowing Leithan to fire into the yawning cage. Icedogs up 3-1
A slight defensive coverage gaff a few minutes later, allowed Ryan P to beat Owen W on the blocker side, bringing our rivals to within 1 yet again.
This woke up the group. The heads came up and the battle cries could be heard!
With a little less than 5 minutes to go, Lucas S netted his second goal after a great shot after a one on one battle. Final Score 4-2 for the LL#1 squad.
The first game jitters are behind us and there is more work to be done.
