Friday night Icedogs hit by the Blizzard, Saturday morning all was Calm
Icedogs took to the ice Friday night hosting the Huron-Bruce Blizzards, and allowed the Blizzards to quickly put 3 on the board. Sweet Willy Hampton remained calm in net not allowing anymore in the first, keeping it 3-0. Mid way through the 2nd period Icedogs took their feet off the gas and allowed Huron Bruce to score 4 more. Coaches and kids had a great chat during the 2nd intermission, and Icedogs came out in the 3rd with a plan to break the Blizzards shut out. Icedogs had some penalty trouble late in the 3rd and allowed Huron Bruce to net 3 more, putting the game out of reach.
Saturday morning the Icedogs brushed themselves off and got back on the ice to face the Shallow Lake Lakers. From the opening faceoff Icedogs put the pressure on strong, but allowed Shallow Lake some zone play early, but once again Sweet Willy Hampton was rock solid. Icedogs defense held the line midway through the first, got puck in deep, and left winger Paysen Hamel buries some garbage from the side of the left post to put Icedogs up 1-0. Icedogs found themselves in some penalty trouble to start the 2nd period allowing Shallow Lake to tie things up. Late in the 2nd period Shallow Lake jumps ahead with a 2-1 lead. Early in the 3rd Icedogs took another penalty but their penalty kill was strong enough to hold off Shallow Lake. With 6 minutes left in the 3rd Icedogs apply their forecheck and Shallow lake turns the puck over and Hunter Thompson jumps on the loose puck, then feeds Calhon Urbshott, who then nets the Icedogs 2nd goal to bring them to a tie. The back checking from the forwards and the strong defense play and Sweet Willy Hampton doing his job in net, Icedogs hold the lakers to a 2-2 draw. This concludes the Icedogs dog regular season play with a quiet record of 3-4-1. Next action Icedogs play an exhibition home and home with Saugeen Shores March 13-14.
