Icedogs Build Character with WIn in Shallow Lake
On a foggy afternoon the Icedogs headed North to visit the Lakers of Shallow Lake
Maybe it was the tough driving, battling the weather that added a little more determination to the Icedog players today. Maybe not.
Whatever it was it helped. This afternoon was a battle. Both teams had chances. Both teams were relentless. Both goalies played great.
Today was a lesson in rebounds and second chances and never giving up on the puck.
The first period was pretty even, back and forth with chances in both ends. Late in the first, the Lakers got on the board first banging a rebound past Michael M.
The Icedogs came out in the second and quickly tied it up with a bang in rebound by Aden M. That line of Aden M Jesse P and Carter M was back at it later in the period when Aden M banged in his second of the game after all three crashed the net and caused all sorts of problems. The Laker quickly replied and the game was tied at 2 heading into the third.
The defense grouping of Avery W, Waylon G, Cohen H, William M and Owen W led the play by keeping the puck in the offensive end, getting the puck out quickly and getting the puck to the net. Owen W snuck in deep and got a couple nifty little shots away that caused the Laker goalie to work harder than he had to.
At the start of the third, Carter M banged one off the boards out of his end and sent Jesse P away all alone on a breakaway only to get tackled from behind but still managed to get a shot off.
These 2 teams have a had pretty good games in the past - a 0-0 tie and a 3-0 loss for the Icedogs. This made the third period all the more exciting as neither side wanted to lose this game.
Then in the middle of the third, Avery W fires one in on net. A battle in front and Gryphon B bangs in his own rebound for the game winner.
Today this team made mistakes, but took a step forward as they learned that you don't quit, never give up and always work hard. Character was built today and will help this team immensely as they move forward in the season.
